| program notes:
Multiple Histories/Lost Childhood Sing-Alongs is an exploration of mine into childhood. I have tried to explore and interpret
my relationship to my childhood, and by extension relationships between instruments and forces in the composition.
Music is often about the comparison or opposition between two things, but in this work, I attempted to dissect the
relationships between the instruments, trying to honestly understand how they work and what they mean. In this way,
part of the music is about the recontextualization of childhood music and childhood instruments, and the music constantly
reflects on its context. I have personified the rift between childhood and adulthood in many ways, including texture,
tempi, instruments, and a variety of key relationships. I would like to extend a great deal of thanks to JeffreyMilarsky, Claire Heldrich, and the Manhattan School of Music Percussion Ensemble for asking me to write this work.
