| These pieces represent my attempt to write music that is conceptually challenging, but not physically challenging; I do not like the idea of writing in a compositional style that demands extreme technical ability simply by definition. As a composer, I am very aware of this pattern into which many composers get locked, so I decided to write a series of small pieces that require little technical skill. The resulting pieces were Lullaby for Clarinet, Piano, and Recording and Child's Piano Piece. The former is an electro-acoustic work that draws non-tonal parallels with children's lullabies in terms of their harmonic stagnancy and overall contour; the latter is an acoustic work written to be easy enough for a child to play. This piece, deeply rooted in chance and chaos, is mostly concerned with range and register.
